Has your vision begun to appear cloudy or out of focus? Are you having more trouble seeing at night? If you are experiencing these symptoms, you may indeed have cataracts in one or both of your eyes. Cataracts can cause vision loss and eventually lead to blindness if not treated. However, the good news is that cataract surgery is one of the most common and safest eye surgeries performed today. If you would like to have your eyes examined by an excellent Jersey City ophthalmologist, make an appointment to see us at Palisade Eye.
At Palisade Eye, if it is determined that you do indeed have cataracts, we will be able to successfully fix your vision problem. The expert ophthalmologists at our practice are Dr. Anthony Panariello, Dr. Betty Cervenak, Dr. Ganesh Rau, Dr. Ceaser Pitta, and Dr. Brazzo. At our practice, our board-certified ophthalmologists treat a wide variety of vision problems. We frequently perform cataract surgery for our patients who are experiencing vision loss related to this problem. Our Jersey City ophthalmologist will generally perform cataract surgery on one eye at a time -- although cataracts can appear in one or both eyes. Cataracts are a clouding of the natural lens of the eye. During cataract surgery the natural, clouded lens is replaced by a clear, man made lens. This lens will not develop cataracts and will never need to be replaced.
Cataract corrective surgery is generally done under local anesthesia using a laser. The laser is used to make a tiny incision in the eye. It is through this incision that the old lens is removed, and the new man made lens is inserted. The incision is so tiny that it will not need a suture or any type of bandage. Complete recovery from the surgery can take several weeks, but many patients see improved vision in as little as one day. However, it is important to remember that everyone has a different healing schedule. The entire surgery is short, and generally takes less than thirty minutes. When you return home, you will have a protective cover over your eye to keep your eye from inadvertently being poked or touched. Our Jersey City ophthalmologist will see you for a follow-up visit to make sure your eye is healing well. If you would like to meet with one of our ophthalmologists regarding cataract surgery, contact our office for an appointment.
