Your eyes can become susceptible to several problems usually associated with aging Such as cataracts, a condition where the normally clear lens of the eye begins to get cloudy, blurring vision and eventually blocking out the light. The lens allows light into the eye and focuses it on the retina at the back of the eye. Made of protein and water the clear lens can begin to cloud up as a result of aging. The doctors at Palisade Eye office will diagnose, monitor and treat cataracts to restore lost vision, which often includes
Weehawken multi-focal implants.
Even though the cataract often develops slowly to the point where it starts to deter vision our doctors will need to remove the clouded natural lens and replace it with an artificial lens to restore normal vision. Basically, it is up to the patient to tell our doctor when the cataract is affecting their lifestyle enough to warrant its removal. Cataract removal has become a very common surgery that is performed as an outpatient procedure. Our doctor removes the lens by a process called phacoemulsification, which uses ultrasound to break up the clouded lens into little pieces and that are then suctioned out. Once the old lens has been removed our doctor replaces it with an artificial lens. The traditional intraocular lens (IOL) will generally restore clear vision and correct most cases of nearsightedness; however, the patient may still need to use eyeglasses for near distance vision. Our practice recommends the use of Weehawken multi-focal implants, which will allow the eye to focus on near distance as well as far distance. Premium IOLs correct multifocal and astigmatism issues as well, our practice often use Acrysof ReStor lenses as the multi-focal implant lens of choice.
After surgery the patient keeps the eye covered and rests until they visit our ophthalmology office for a follow-up in a day or two. After the procedure the
Weehawken multi-focal implants affords the patient clear vision that usually allows them to get rid of their corrective lenses. If you think that you are developing a cataract come see our doctor for an evaluation.
